EU Approves Comprehensive Customs Reform

On April 15, 2026, EU member states, including Estonia, approved a significant reform of the customs union to address challenges faced by national customs authorities and businesses. The reform simplifies procedures, introduces a data-driven approach with the establishment of an EU Customs Data Hub, and aims to strengthen resilience during crises. It also abolishes customs duty exemptions for low-value consignments and introduces a €3 fee per item, effective July 1. This reform represents a digital transformation in customs operations, enhancing efficiency and security across the EU.
